The Lake Effect machine quiets down

For now. But it returns Wednesday PM, with a similar or slightly less effect. However, reports from the Tughill of a foot of snow makes for a nice start to the snowmobiling season, for those of that bent! And more to come by Thursday, can only help. Keep in mind though, that the weekend looks a bit warmer, so another outbreak will be necessary to freshen up the snow after the weekend.

Follow up: Still no travel issues to come :)

If you’re travalling nearly anywhere in the country, except the Upper Midwest and the Pacific Northwest, you wont run into any problems through Sunday, so good news for travellers. Mild weather continues throughout the state of NY through Thursday, but colder weather returns for the weekend, with some flakes Saturday, especially the closer to the Lake you will be. Long range? Maybe a storm involving snow the middle of next week…long way off, we’ll see.

It’s “The most [travelled] time…of the year”

(I made use of the Christmas carol, “It’s the most wonderfult time…of the year” for my headline.)

Weather looks to continue to be very tranquil through Thursday, and pretty mild by day….averaging about 10 degrees warmer than norms, through Friday. So, while high and mid level clouds will pass through our skies Tuesday through early Thursday, no rain is forecast until later Friday. And no snow until flurries later Saturday.

So, whether you are travelling across the street or town to granma’s house, across the state, or across country, really no foul weather anywhere through Thursday!

Weather related events tonight and tomorrow night

I like to keep you  up to date on things to do, weather-wise. Tonight’s no different. Tonight, in Herkimer, at 6:30, at the Herkimer County E-911 Center, the Ametuer Radio Association along with the NWS is sponsoring a workshop for folks who would like to become official weather spotters for the NWS. It is free, and you ar under no obligation, unless you become a spotter, in which case, you simply email the NWS what took place and when (ie 6″ snow..began 8am, ended Noon; or Tornado sighted 1 mile west of Barnaveld at 6:50pm, Etc)

In addition, THURSDAY night, yet another free planetarium show takes place at SUNY Oneonta at 7pm. Google the SUNY Oneonta Planetarium for more details.

Records set, nothing BOARing about the weather!

We managed a new record high for Sunday (69F), and another Monday (67F), but the bottom is falling out overnight tonight. MUCH more seasonable weather is coming for the remainer of the week.

And you know it’s been a good day when the Utica Boar “Likes” your fan page!

Records set?

I’m expecting highs Sunday to be near 60F, and Monday near 65F. The current record for each is 59F and 66F, so we are definitely in record territorty here.

On a different note, there is a minor meteor shower going on tonight…the Taurids (they appear to eminate out of Taurus the Bull), but they wont be seen here, because of cloudy skies… 😦

Warm weather is heading our way, by Sunday

One more cold night, and then the warming trend develops, and doesn’t stop until we reach low to mid 60s by Monday afternoon! No snow (or rain) in the forecast till Monday night (although I wouldn’t be shocked by sprinkles Friday eve or Saturday).
